Xeni, I Still Love You

Xeni Jardin

is one of the authors of what may be my favourite online news source, BoingBoing. She also is the one who tends to link to the racier stories, especially NSFW ones.

Well, someone used the Firefox extension GreaseMonkey to make sure that no Xeni posts showed up while he was surfing at work. And, like a good little hacker, let Xeni know about it. Well, she posted a link to the code on BoingBoing because she thought it was a Wonderful Thing. Then the hacker’s boss read the post and wrote in to Xeni, saying:

Hi Xeni,

Just a note about Mr. Andrews and his “de-Xeni” plugin – We’ve caught him looking at far worse things than your “over the top” posts. Why he has picked you to filter, one may never know, but I have an idea for a plugin. Maybe I will add it to the Grease Monkey requests. It’s really simple. When Jesse opens Firefox, it directs Jesse to a folder on my server called, “Things Jesse needs to do today before the big hand is on 12 and the little hand is on 5″! Just an idea.

Keep on keepin’ on,

Now that’s a Wonderful Thing.

Oh, and if you haven’t seen FlickrGraph yet, Check this out. It’s a flash interface to Flickr, where you can see yourself and your contacts, and your contacts’ contacts, and your contacts’ contacts’ contacts, in a nifty graphical layout. It’s a cool way to people-surf or to just kill a few days clicking mindlessly.

Thanks to Caterina for pointing this out.

I’ve been waiting SO LONG to get this. Boreas finally arrived on Friday, and I couldn’t be happier.

Resizing the Windows partition went pretty smoothly, and I’ve installed the amd64 port of Debian on the rest of the drive. It installed GRUB by default, so I decided to try grub out rather than install LILO.

I’m still trying to get X and the wireless card working. But I’ve found some stuff on line that makes me think it won’t be too too painful.
